What is meta-aramid and what is para-aramid?

- Jul 09, 2018-

At present, aramid products mainly include iisophthaloyl metaphenylene diamine fiber (referred to as meta-aramid), terephthaloyl-p-phenylene diamine fiber (referred to as para-aramid) and Heterocyclic aromatic polyamide fibre (referred to as aramid III) and other varieties.

Meta aramid fiber has excellent heat resistance (decomposition temperature >400℃), flame resistance (limit oxygen index >29%), good textile processing and insulation properties, aerospace, national defense, transportation, electronics, environmental protection, personal protection and other fields of important basic materials.

The most popular para aramid fiber is Kevlar, which the United States DuPont Company produced, the main advantages for it are high-strength, high modulus, high-temperature resistance, acid and alkali. Aramid fiber is mostly used in fire-resistant materials, most of which are used in bulletproof vests, anti-cutting gloves, etc. to prevent mechanical damage.
